Sewing Challenge.....

ETA: For some reason Blogger is being a pig head today and I can't put in any links to any product. So basically, all the Basic Grey items you can buy on-line at Embellish-It Scrapbooking (which I can't link up grrrr) or locally, in Chatham at The Paper Pickle. ALL FIXED NOW!

Well, I have seen this challenge a lot in the last couple of days, but I promise, (right hand over my heart, left hand in the air) that this was thought up last August!

It is my turn to challenge the girls on Embellish-It Scrapbooking and I chose (last August by the way) to challenge the girls to some type of sewing whether it be real or fake or squiggly or straight - HEY! that almost rhymes!

Mine is faux sewing, sort of......

I didn't poke any holes, I just went along the edges with my Tombow marker and made stitches and I love it - love this whole altered notepad actually! What is it with me I am liking altering things lately - will someone please feel my head!

This is - was - a dollar store heart shaped note pad and I covered it with Bittersweet paper by Basic Grey.



I added a chipboard flourish that I painted up with paint dabbers - watermelon first, then Pink Sherbert and finally Pearl to add a bit of sheen and to tone down that pink!

I used Prima leaves and hydrangea flowers to dress up the front. I added a Basic Grey Bittersweet glazed brad to the center of the flower.

It still needed something and I had received some gorgeous feathers in the Jenni Bowlin January kit, so I tucked them in behind the Prima flower.

The notebook from the $$$ store was originally bound together with wires - which I hated - ugly metally binder-y twine-y things - so I removed the ugly metally binder-y twine-y things and ran some very cool hemp cord through the holes - like it a lot better!

Hope you like it! This was my last challenge as a member of Embellish-It Scrapbooking - see this post - so thank goodness it was an easy one - I probably would have thrown in the towel - after using it to wipe up the messy tears (ugly crier, right here!)

Just a Little Alteration..!

Just a little alteration personally (read on) and of my calendar for my purse!

I love this Basic Grey Ambrosia!! I have just become an orange fan and love all these bright colours that are so refreshing after the Christmas red and green.

Don't get me wrong.....I love the Christmas colours but I am kind of tired of them.





For some reason Valentine's Day red and Christmas red seem to be a different colour - make ANY sense!!??

Anyway - back to orange!

This is one of those calendar notebooks that the drug store gives out for free, and I just sparkled it up a bit for my own personal satisfaction - oh .......and the gallery at Embellish-It Scrapbooking for January!! LOL!

Sadly, January was the last reveal for me at Embellish-It Scrapbooking. My six month stint is up on the design team and although I had the option of staying on for the next four months, I decided to turn down the wonderful offer.

My daughter Marcie is expecting another baby on the 27th of January - YIKES!! only 5 days away - so she will NEED me - I keep telling her that anyway! LOL!

I just thought it best to step down from designing for a few weeks, rather than sloppily try to keep up with the design team work.

Shaped Cards!!

Today's challenge for the Design Team at Embellish-It Scrapbooking was to make a shaped card , that is, a card other than a rectangle or square or probably even a circle card!

UGH I said........



In one of the thousands of paper crafting magazines that I buy, I saw a lot of house cards so I thought I would try one of those!

I started with a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card base, cut the top sides at an angle, making sure to leave a little bit of the fold and went from there.

I had some Basic Grey scraps (a lot) to work with so I picked one of the pages from the Two Scoops 6 x 6 collection and one from the Cupcake 6 x 6 paper pack and glued those papers to the card base.

I made a little white frill and added some Walmart ribbon that I stole from Marcie yesterday - thanks Marcie - *waving* and *smiling* and *sticking out my tongue* .........luv you - thanks for the ribbon!! and paper........

I got out my Boards and Beams stamp set from Papertrey Ink and stamped the sentiment on a scrap circle and then adhered it to a scalloped circle. And if you imagine correctly, you can obviously tell that it represents a chimney...... right?... RIGHT??

Yippee do! Hubby is taking me out for lunch - via the hardware store and the post office.........it's all good!

Phew! I just got my eggs gathered finally.........Our son Andy has been gathering the eggs while he is out of work, so I have enjoyed being the lady of leisure.

He had other things to do this morning so I offered to gather them....yikes!

Physical labour, after a huge leave of absence, has its down side!!

Naturally my hands are very strong from paper crafting and stamping (hahahaha!) so they will not be aching tomorrow.........but my back and arms are killing me from all that lifting and bending, lifting and bending, lifting and bending...........

Groaning here with "out of shapeness"........

Gallery Reveal!!

Today is the day that the Embellish-It Scrapbooking January gallery opens up and shows all of our design team's work for our January assignments!

This month it was my job to host the challenge and I chose the theme New Beginnings! Our projects were to celebrate something new in our lives - obviously the New Year, a new relationship, even your new dog!!

I chose to celebrate a new relationship - which I don't have or am not in .....no no no!! I like my relationship just the way it is..........NOT new-- haha!



We were sent Pink Paislee Sweet Cakes Patterned paper which is so pretty and sweet so I hope that I do it justice!

My stamp is from Basic Grey's Two Scoops Sweet Sentiments clear acrylic set and it stamps like a dream! I was really impressed with this set as it has so many images and which I don't think that the packaging shows.

The ribbon is that luscious May Arts ribbon which is 20% off right now - yay!! and a few Prima hydrangea's which just have "LOVE" written all over them - not literally - just in my mind!

Friday Challenge on Saturday!

What else is new? I told you I have my days all mixed up this week!

This card is for Fridays Challenge on Embellish-It Scrapbooking to use patterned paper and Today's Inspiration challenge to be inspired by Cake Nouveau -- too wonderful!!

I used this cake for inspiration and I was going to use the lamb stamp but the bunny came out instead!




I think I came along to the stamping world just in time to see the explosion of patterned paper. and what a good thing for me!! I love patterned paper!

I used Pink Paislee patterned paper and Papertrey Ink Lemon Tart for my card today! Very quick and easy!

Of course, that sweet stamps set from Kim Hughes called Sweet Spring!

I like to think we are on the right side of winter, but geesh,..........it is cold (it is only January.....but a girl can dream can't she?!)

Quick Cards..!

This week on our Friday Challenge at Embellish-It Scrapbooking, we are focusing on quick cards!

Seriously, this card took under 15 minutes to make, and most of that was decided where to place those Hero Arts poinsettias - I fuss about things like that! Should the red one go on the left or the right? Or maybe the top........Or maybe I should have green centres or gold centres or just bling centers..............Do you think the flower centers should be all the same colour or all different? Pure silliness I tell ya!!

Okay, let's start!! YAY!!

Believe it or not, everything I created for this month's designs were altered! I don't even like to alter, but with this Basic Grey paper, it is too beautiful - I needed to do more than make a card - not that there is anything wrong with that...lol!!



Here is a picture of my sweetie! - Well, technically not MY sweetie, but my grandson sweetie!

I just changed up a $1.00 frame from Michael's - easy as pie - easier!!

First I painted the frame with gold lustre paint and when that dried, I laid the frame upside down on my Basic Grey Wassail paper and traced around the frame - both on the inside and the outside.

Then I cut the paper a little bit inside the lines, because tracing isn't an exact science (my tracing anyway.....), and I planned to sand the edges anyway!

Using Tombow mono glue, I adhered the paper to the frame and then saw that I needed to trim a bit more, because obviously my cutting isn't an exact science either!!

After trimming, I took my sanding block and sanded down all the edges just a bit.

I usually have to put my craft down, look at it, turn it over, turn it around, walk away, do laundry, come back and then an idea will hit me! So that is what I did. When I came back into my room I saw immediately what I wanted to do with it!

First, I added the fun holly leaves Rub-Ons......they just glide on so easy!

Then I knew I wanted to cover up the seam somehow. I tried ribbon, I tried more paper, but I settled on the Basic Grey Wassail buttons and I am glad I did!

I didn't tie twine in the buttons this time, because I really didn't want anything to detract from that ever-luvin' face!!

The bottom was still so desolate looking, so I got out my Thickers and coloured them with Copics. Then I added the Antique Linen distress Stickles for lots of sparkle!!

I think it turned out perfectly!! What do you think??

Naughty or Nice?

Today is the unveiling of our December gallery at Embellish-It Scrapbooking!! The Design Team has been hard at work preparing our projects for your enjoyment!

This month it is all about Basic Grey Wassail!! I know you have seen this beautiful line of papers, rub-ons, buttons, brads, chipboards - need I go on??! But you have never seen it done like this before!!

Here is one to get you started!!

TAGS!! Every since Christina Fischer created her tag here, I have been luvin' these little pieces of goodness!

They are so easy to throw together! Can you imagine, at your Christmas gathering, the comments these tags will receive??!! I am quite excited about it!


I bought a package of 100 shipping tags from Staples and stamped them with the very naughty owl from Kim Hughes line U R A Hoot. I coloured him with my copics - yes, my hand cramped up - and paper pieced the hat!

I added a bit of white liquid applique for the ball and the brim on the hat.

Then, using sentiments from Christmas Cheer - "naughty or nice", U R A Hoot - "howly jowly Christmas", and Pet-Tootie sentiments - "something tweet for you", I stamped them along the bottom of the tag.




Using my ziggy pen, I drew a line so that it looks like he is sitting on his perch, looking so much like he is not excited for Christmas at all!! But you know he is.........

I decorated with Basic Grey Wassail, using the rub-ons, paper and glazed brads. Now, I just realized that --ackkkkkkkk!!! I got so excited to take the picture, I snapped and posted it before I added the gold ribbon!



Now, because of all the colouring, the back of the tag was a mess! so I added more Basic Grey Wassail on the reverse!

Today's challenge on Embellish-it Scrapbooking was Suzy's responsibility and boy - what a great one!! Use the scraps that are laying around your play area and make a "something"!!


That was easy enough - lately I have got tons of crap, I mean scrap, laying all over the place!!

I had this robot stamped and coloured with my copics ,so of course I was going to use that. But I wanted to incorporate a Christmas theme since Marcie and I have been doing our Christmas bazaar's and we need all the Christmas card's we can!!

While this is not really Christmas-y, it is using Basic Grey Wassail and he is wearing mittens - so it passes!!

The mittens are from Kim Hughes set "Christmas Cheer" and the robot is from the "Little Guy" set - both very cute!!

Hero Arts felt snowflake, Basic Grey Wassail buttons and Cuttlebug snowflake folder finish it off!

A little "out there" but cute none-the-less!!

Cupcake-a-licious!

A little Verve-a-liciousness today!! Cupcake City!! Warm and Fuzzy felt stuff to go along with it!!

That is the challenge this week on Embellish-It Scrapbooking! Ching had the honours this week and her challenge was to create something with felt, out of felt, with felt attached.

I attached a little felt heart (not to be mistaken for heartfelt, and a little felt button from my Fancy Pants Designs Felt Shapes to the side of my Cupcake - to make it yummy! not that it could be any yummier!




I actually used my pink liquid applique!!! - yes, I have been hoarding it for just that special occasion.......which is..........um............a very special occasion that is soon coming my way that I may need pink liquid applique for - THAT is why I am hoarding it!

Oh, who knows why I hoard things???!!!

The card is made from Basic Grey Urban Prairie designer paper and the Cupcake is from Verve Stamps of course, and that set is called Cupcake Affair - love it!!

Here we go..........on a personal note, I took Holly to a doctor's appointment yesterday and I got the nerve up to ask about my breast ultrasound.

After all, it has been almost 3 weeks and no one has let me know anything!

The report says it is just a cyst and to keep up the mammograms. Well, you think they could have called and told me that.

Anyway, I walked down the hall and started crying - right out of the blue!! I guess I was more worried than I thought.

I think I will go and have a Cupcake Affair right now!! to celebrate of course!

The Other Purse...........

Here is the other purse that I made with Nicole Heady's tutorial and it is pretty dang cute if I do say so myself.



Not as fluffy as the other one, but sweet just the same!

I stamped the Frog "Prince" , as I like to call him, onto white cardstock and coloured him with my copics.

I cut, scored and folded my Imaginisce paper, as per the tutorial and attached the ribbon.

I had some MM pink velvet stickers in a drawer, at the back, that I found, so I used the little pink wings and attached them to the box.

The Frog Prince was cut out and glued on top of the wings........! and Voila! Another little purse for Lip Smackers and such!!

Sweet Grace's Purse!!

Before I get started, Little Paper Shop is having a 15% sale today (Saturday) only on everything in the store!! How cool is THAT!! Hop on over and scoop up those sweet stamp sets!!

Okay, how about one more project using that adorable Imaginisce "Fairest of Them All" papers??!

This project is from a tutorial by the amazing Nicole Heady, for her Clearly Creative Purse she made way back in December 2007!

Using a clear, soft fold box and your craft knife, and before assembling the box, carefully cut the clear box in half.This is a heck of a lot easier to do when it is unassembled and laying flat!! I used a ruler and ran the knife alongside to ensure a straight cut.

Now you have two sides, so what could I do but make two purses?!! I will show the other one tomorrow.....


Now assemble the clear half box, which is just the flap at the end, and set it aside.

Using a double sided piece of designer paper, I used Enchanted Garden for my "grace" purse, cut a piece 6 5/8" X 4 3/8".

Then, using a Scor-Pal, (you have to get one of these babes!!) score the paper at 2 7/8" and 3 3/4" from the long side.

At this point, I added my ribbon to my designer paper, because I wanted to decorate the outside of the "purse" without the ribbon getting in the way. I added a few little glue dots on the very bottom of the paper before I inserted it into the box, so it would stay put, and around the top edge.

Using the complimentary "Crowning Moment" DP paper, I cut a strip and made a border with my scalloped punch and adhered it around the top outside of the purse.


I dug out my Thickers and my Paint Dabbers and dabbed up the letters, first with Pink Sherbet, then Watermelon and then went over top with the Pearl dabber, and I really love the outcome of the letters - all mottled like that!!

I embossed a small scrap of vellum with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder and punched out a butterfly with the Martha Stewart butterfly punch. I added a bit of Hero Arts bling and adhered it with rolled up glue dot.

I added a few Prima hydrangeas with Stamping Bella baubles and it is ready for our sweet little great niece (gawd!! I sound freakin' old!!) Grace to use for her lip glosses or Smarties or even a little baby doll!

Dingly-dangly!!

Hubby has been on my case to sell all of my beads - yikes!! - part with something???

I panicked and made a pair of earrings just to show him that I still need all those beads, just in case......you never know!

I stamped my "carriage" Imaginisce" acrylic stamp onto white Polyshrink plastic.

Make sure you use Staz-on ink so that it stays on (heehee). I used Blush Pink Staz-on to keep with the pink theme of the Imaginisce line - which I am absolutely luvin'!!

I cut out the shape with my Scalloped Circle Nestabilities and then punched a hole in the circle at the top with my teeny weeny circle punch! Make sure you do this before you heat the Polyshrink plastic, because if you wait until after you heat it, very tough to do! And I know this......just because.........




Then comes the funnest part of all!! HEATING IT AND SHRINKING IT AND WATCHING IT! I felt like a little kid with my heat gun, full of all sorts of emotions, standing over this little circle, watching it do all sorts of contortions!

It folds up (despair) and turns over (glee) and unfolds (excited) and flattens (amazed) and skittles across the room (peed) if you are not holding it down somehow, all in a matter of about 30 seconds!!

I just held my big Cuttlebug plate in one hand and the heat gun in the other hand, and sort of sheltered the plastic to avoid having it "skittle across the room" the second time!

So after all that emotion, I sorted out some beads. These awesome pink clay beads, I bought from Cindy's Art and Soul - way back when and have finally used them. She has gorgeous beads and creations!! Check out her site if you are interested even the tiniest iota!!

I added a couple of Swarovski Roundelles and they were done. So very quick and easy and if I hadn't have had to chase my shrink art all over the room, they would have been even quicker!! LOL!!

November Gallery Opening!

Good Wednesday morning to you!

Today is the fifth of month and that means Embellish-It Scrapbooking Design Team Gallery debut for November!

Go and take a look at all of the fabulous pink designs by everyone on the team!! Barb sent us some Imaginisce goodies from the "Fairest of Them All" line and were they so cute and pretty!

I have to admit I was not an Imaginisce fan AT ALL! I don't know why - maybe the penguin thing got me going.....oops.....don't tune out.....akkkk!!.....I am not a fan of penguins.........although I loved that little penguin movie.......anyway...on with the show.......

I made up a little boy "Prince" set, if you will. The onesie idea, I have done before, but what a quick, cute gift for a baby.


I just stamped the "Frog Prince"- I call it a Prince-in Ripe Avocado Palette Ink. This ink does not wash out, so it is safe to stamp with, I have washed the other onesie I did and it is still bright and fresh as ever!!


I folded it up and put it into a Rectangular Hinged Window tin and decorated it with some Basic Grey Euphoria, which matches so fabulously with Imaginisce "Fairest of Them All"

Well, of course, then I needed a matching card to go with it, so I just kept the same theme and used the Basic Grey Euphoria and Imaginisce Fairest of them All papers, along with a Memory Box cardbase and kept working!


I stamped the sentiment, Welcome, from Little Paper Shop - Little One stamp set, with Brilliance black onto the Prima flower and the front of the card. I did a little bit of sewing and button tying and the whole set was done!

Little Paper Shop girly day!!

Today is Little Paper Shop Monday and I have such a sweet, cute, girly card for you today!

I was so excited when I received my "Fairest of the All" papers from Imaginisce! These are so sweet and girly and perfect for Little Paper Shop's "Fairytale Adventure" stamp set!

I stamped the princess onto my white cardstock and then I stamped her again onto a post-it note, making sure that the sticky part on the back of the note was down - to begin with --pththth!

I cut out the princess from the post-it note and then stuck her onto the white cardstock princess, then I stamped the tree behind her - and removed the sticky note to show my my little scene!



I assembled the card, using the Imaginisce Fairest of them All papers - they are so cute and pretty and sparkly - I LOVE them!! I did a little sewing and little nestabilities-ing and some blinging too, so that my card was so soft and sweet and girly! Can you tell I would love for my next grandchild to be a little girl??!! Kay-sa-rah...............

Happy Hallowe'en!!

Happy Friday everyone!

I am celebrating Hallowe'en with a Christmas card!!

Today is Friday and that means another Friday Free for All at Embellish-It Scrapbooking.

It is my turn to issue the challenge to the Design Team this week AND to all of you out there! Please play along if you can and upload your card to the gallery. Use the keyword FC14 so we can find your creation!!

My challenge this week is to use some sort of recycling on your creation!

Oh yes, you know you will have tons of candy wrappers lying around - use them on a card!! Or any little bit of scrapbooking "garbage" - apply it somehow, someway to your altered object!



My little piece of "garbage" is the back of the Prima Painted Petals packaging! So simple - you just have to keep your eyes open to find that perfect thing!

I stamped the wreath from the 2008 Holiday Tags stamp set in the Ocean Tides ink and attached a few little bling-y thing-y's - it killed me to do that - I am SUCH a hoarder!!

Then I punched it out with the Marvy Punch and set it aside.

I embossed my white cardstock with one of the "Just My Type" Cuttlebug embossing folders - cute little borders that are only about 1/2" wide and there are 5 of them in a package! Very cool.....

I adhered my "garbage" lol! and tied the new Papertrey Ink Ocean Tides satin ribbon around it.

When I attached the image with dimensionals, I decided right then to stop fussing, fiddling and/or dithering about it - like I usually do!

Doesn't that sound like fun!! I can't be there because hubby has a Lodge supper to attend and he needs a pretty little thing on his arm. Eva Longoria is busy that night so that means I have to attend, but I am sure going to check in on the posts when I get home and read all the tips I can!!

Also, if the sun comes out before I have to take Holly to Math Class, I can take a picture of my new card and upload it to my blog.

I have a Little Paper Shop creation to show you since yesterday was Little Paper Shop day - and I was racing around and didn't have time to make one (of course even though EVERY Monday is LPS day, I had all week to do it but my procrastinator self wouldn't let me!!)

As far as yesterday goes, I had the ultrasound on my right breast, and they said the doctor would call me later this week to give me the results.........for gawd's sakes!!

That could mean

1. Bad news - they don't want to be the ones to deliver that news OR

2. Good news - they didn't find anything and didn't want to waste any more of their time...

Either way, they should have told me because I am going nuts!!
